What is the BRC Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials?

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) and the Packaging Society (formerly known as the Institute of Packaging - IoP) jointly developed this global standard to help retailers and food manufacturers meet their legal obligations. This standard aims to help protect the consumer by providing a common basis for the evaluation of companies supplying packaging for food products to retailers. The BRC Packaging and Packaging Materials Standard is recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).

The BRC Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials is designed for manufacturers and suppliers of packaging used for retailer own branded products that have an obligation to implement appropriate systems and controls to ensure the suitability of their packaging for safe food and non-food use.
